As I enter the front door, the smell of coffee hits me, and for a moment I have to ask myself, am I in the right place? After each step into the lobby I realize I am moving farther away from the hectic chaos of daily traffic. A concierge welcomes me and knows my name! I pass a fireplace and its cozy warmth as I glance around the lobby and think to myself, these people must love what they do. Maybe my banking can wait for a few more minutes. Periodicals and my favorite magazines are by the fireplace, and I find a comfy sofa – but not before deciding to enjoy some of the house blend that greeted me when I walked in. The news projected on the flat-screen plasma TV brings me up to speed on important economic affairs. One gourmet flavored cream and two sugars later I settle into the sofa and decide to check email. But I don’t have my wireless laptop. How cool …I can opt for one of the web-connected house PCs. I make a mental note to remember to bring my laptop next time so I can connect to the wireless internet here. I have to ask myself, has banking changed, or just my bank?
Finally, it is time to do my banking. I approach one of the stand-up kiosks where a live transaction specialist awaits via closed-circuit TV, and again, they know my name! While interacting with the staff member on the screen, I am reminded that if I ever need a more personal consultation or any information regarding bank accounts, mortgages or wealth management, I can easily visit Guest Services near the front door or meet with one of the financial service representatives, located in private offices nearby. Those offices also have transaction center access that allows me to complete basic transactions in the same place I handle more involved financial matters. Believing that I have spent the last few minutes in some sort of safe haven, I can't help but believe they actually think about me and my LIFE. Wait, isn't that the name of my account…LIFE?
As my transaction is completed and I turn to leave, the financial service representative informs me that if I enjoyed my banking relationship and refer anyone to open an account, I'll earn a referral gift. After looking at the surroundings and taking it all in again, I smile, and then say, "I hope you are well-stocked on those referral gifts." Upon receiving my receipt and a smile, I return the gesture and head toward the exit. As I reach for the door you notice the sign…Discover the Difference. "Too late," I say to myself, “I already have.”
